Hear yea! Hear yea!

First it was Terje, now it's Nick Maclauren comes to the USA.

Previously in comp.arch, we held a rec.arts.books (rab)style -fest
face to face get together, what, now 2 years ago? So something like
19-20 of the ca folk got together at a cheap Chinese place in Santa
Clara while there was word of an East coast similar gathering and a
gathering in the UK (not being there, I could not verify these). Not
important.

So now I detect word that Nick Mac. is coming to the land of the Evil
Empire (Starbucks if I get my movies right). It is suggested herein
that we hold a ca-fest in Seattle during the course of the SC'2005
conference.

Here we can roast, I mean greet, Nick.

While I know Seattle some what (like the D-Lounge), I don't know of a
place where as many as 20 people can get together to munch easily
(Fresh Choice east of downtown on the way to the other Empire would
work, but it's too far). So if any of you guys have any suggestions
where we might meet, I am game. Most of the places I know are too small
to hold a group as large as 20 people downtown.

For comp.parallel, I did a late attempt to propose a c.p. BOF, but
the proposal was turned down as too vague.

Followups set to comp.sys.super for location discussion out of the
moderated comp.parallel space and the wider more general comp.arch space.

On meetinng with Nick, DiNucci, and others from the group (both lurkers
and posters to comp.arch and c.p.), it's likely the best meeting method
would be Thursday at the Museum of Flight in some corner of the place
at the technical reception. Nick is traveling with his own Cambridge crowd.
The Wright/wind tunnel area may be best as it's a little bit more remote.
But this is just an idea at the time. The message board on the 3rd
floor might be the easier way to check. I don't know the galleries all
that well and most places will likley be packed with people.

Well, I ran into Nick and his cohorts several times on the exhibit floor
and in the hotel bar by chance. One of his cohorts wants me to encourage
Nick to buy a Hitachi. I did encounter many other posters and lurkers
while on or near the floor.

At the Museum of Flight, I was delayed to getting to the wind tunnel
in the old barn section. Dave got there before I did and did not see Nick.

Less successful than the Silicon Valley. It was all too short a
meeting, but we had great weather for Seattle.

One of my cohorts? The only other person there was the new Director
of the CCHPCF, but I think that I know who you mean.

Probably because I didn't get there. I flew out on Monday, and the
previous posting did not arrive here before then.

One person did say to me "You really do exist, then."

Regards,
Nick Maclaren.

Oh yeah, I get that all the time.

So what did you pick up?

I got the NEC reading light. Very nice.
The umbrella (Clearpath) (also a bag)
H-P Nalgene water bottle.
SRC shirt (that's supercomputing)
I skipped most of the white substrate tee shirts
I think I got and kept 3-4 black or gray tee shirts
And I didn't really try. I just had them thrust into my face.
At least 3-4 cloth bags to carry the stuff

And then all the marketing lit. and CDs.
