Description: Conference ranking reference at www.conference-ranking.net
http://www.conference-ranking.net/

For the reference of research scientists, this conference ranking
(conference-ranking.net) is produced with collection of information
from different Internet sources. The listings of the quality
conferences have been based on different academics sources but may not
be yet complete.

Note:
(1) If any conference organizer is not satisfied with the ranking of
your conference, please just ignore the ranking. This is because the
ranking is just for reference only.
(2) If the conference organizer would like to have their conferences
listed in this conference ranking, see the details at:
http://www.conference-ranking.net/conference_suggestions.html

Some factors for a good conference ranking:

(a) Quality of committee members: this is an important factor, as this
will affect how the conference is organized and how the quality of
accepted papers can be maintained.
(b) Ratio of acceptance papers: this is an important factor for
ensuring the quality of the conference papers.
(c) Convenience of conference locations: a convenient conference
location will facilitate the researchers, and many researchers would
prefer convenient locations like international cities.
(d) Connection with the industries: this is important for the
conference on applied domains. Generally, a good conference can attract
more industry partners.

Conference ranking by conference types (some conferences may accept
papers from several categories):
Applied Mathematics Conference Ranking
Artificial Intelligence Conference Ranking
Computer Education Conference Ranking
Computer Science Conference Ranking (CS Conference Ranking)
Computer Security and Privacy Conference Ranking
Data Mining Conference Ranking
Distributed and Parallel Computing Conference Ranking
Graphics and Vision Conference Ranking
Financial Engineering Conference Ranking
Industrial Engineering Conference Ranking
Information Engineering Conference Ranking
Internet Computing Conference Ranking
Mechanical Engineering Conference Ranking
Software Engineering Conference Ranking

Am I alone in finding this announcement rather suspicious? Somebody
(who??) is anonymously attempting to set up a ranking system that is
presumably intended to appear as "authoritative", and then apply their
own criteria to determine rankings, in a way that clearly could be open
to manipulation.

The website was created on 20 December 2006. Anyone know who is behind it?

It already lists 6 "High-ranking/ Rank 1" conferences -- AAAI, IJCAI,
IMECS, INFOCOM, WCE, WCECS. I think I recognise the latter two mainly
from some prominent email campaigns attempting to attract customers.
Would it be over-cynical or over-suspicious of me to wonder whether some
conference(s) would have an interest in manipulating their rankings on
some ranking site? But the appearance and the choice of hosting for the
site appear rather amateur to me, so I am not sure what to think.

... and there is an objective criterion for quantifying this ... ?

The fact that we don't know who sent the email or who is running the
web site sure doesn't support its validity. Listing only Rank 1
conferences without, say, Rank 2 conferences, makes it harder for me
to roughly calibrate their rankings against my own experience.

If anyone can ignore the ranking, what good is it? There should at
least be some kind of claim of utility. Maybe even an appeal process,
in case of mistakes ...

Exactly. WCECS is the main conference of, and IAENG is the
organization of, the infamous Nagib Callaos of "great sadneess"
fame. He organizes junk conferences with minimal refereeing and
high acceptance rate, as money-making ventures, and then
professes to have a "great sadneess" when people question the
value of them.

In particular, I notice that the "first rank conferences
in Software Engineering" page mentions "ICSE: IAENG
International Conference on Software Engineering". ICSE is the
acronym of the premier conference on software engineering, all
right, but it is an ACM- and IEEE-sponsored conference, nothing
to do with the IAENG folks. Last year IAENG acronym-jacked ICSE
and claimed to be putting on an ICSE itself. It's beyond
cynical to list four conferences as the top-ranked ones, but to
replace the real ICSE by the fake one.
