Can anyone tell me what the Earth Simulator instruction set is like ?
I had _assumed_ that it was SX like, but someone else is asserting
that it's a MIPS ISA with the added vector units.

I couldn't find anything definitive with googleto settle the
discussion :-(

Thanks

Who the someone?
I think I got something in Phoenix but I gave the Museum all the stuff
(except one tee shirt and a couple of small things oh and excepting
the ice chest I won). I can't get to it until next week, because I am
still sort of on vacation until Monday (Berkeley meetings).
I have a couple of business cards from the JAE users who passed through
and give or gave talks (I think there is one today at work which may use
the ES). Did keep the NEC Photonlight.

Did you google on google.jp?

I would tend to doubt that you would find much.
They have a concern for security. It's meant to be used at a higher level
(like language calls).

Oh yeah, you could also try to post in fj.comp.parallel.

The Earth Simulator is the "classic" NEC SX instruction set. A block level diagram might
remind one of a MIPS block level implementation ( NEC is a major MIPS player and
manufacturer) - BUT the instruction sets are not similar.
